1999 CAMARO V6 3.8L MANUAL
MY ENGINE I MAKING A TERRIBLE KNOCK/CLICK, WHILE IN GEAR AND OUT OF GEAR.
WHEN I RAN IT OVER 3K RPM WHEN DRIVING IT HOME (LOL) IT WAS GOING AWAY.
I AM CONVENCED THAT I CAN PULL THE VALVE COVERS AND REPLACE THE RODS AND MAYVE LIFTERS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE.
IF IT GOES AWAY I WILL REPLACE THE OIL/FILTER AND RUN HER UNTILL SHE KERPOOTS AGAIN?
ANY COMMENTS, OR TIPS
WILL THIS EVEN WORK AS EASY AS IM THINKING?
I WONT HAVE TO RETIME OR MESS WITH ANYTHING AT ALL JUST ASLONG AS I GET IT TIGHTENED CORRECTLY I SHOULD BE OKAY RIGHT?

AFTER I PULL THE RODS AND IF ONE IS NOT BENT I WILL NOT WANT TO REPAIR THE CAR AND SELL IT FOR PARTS.
IM HOPING FOR THE CHEAPEST EASYEST FIX SO PLEASE LMKL WHAT YOU THINK!

Re: 1999 CAMARO V6, ENGINE REPAIR Sign In

1. IT STARTED KNOCKING AFTER I REVED IN NUTRAL.
2. ENGINE IS NOT SEIZED
3. I DONT CARE TO DO IT CORRECTLY. IM NOT GOING TO HONE THE CYL OR REPALCE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE RODS AND POSSIBLE ROCKERS.
4.PRETTY MUCH TAKING A $200-$300 STAB AT IT TO GET IT RUNNING AND TAKE IT EASY ON THE OL GIRL TILL SHES TRULY DONE
5. NO DISCOLORATION OF OIL OR LEAKS. EVERYTHING IS FINE OTHER THAN THE KNOCK THAT GOES AWAY AFTER 3K RPM. IM CONVENCED ITS A BENT ROD AND I CAN FIX IT "SHADY" AND REPALCE THE RODS
6. WILL THIS EFFECT MY TIMING OR ANYTHING THAT IM OVERLOOKING??

Replace the rods? Do you mean push rods? Why would they get bent?

No, you are not going to change any lifters by simply removing the valve covers. It's a lot more work to remove the intake manifold and everything attached to it.

It's a 6.6 hour job by an experienced tech.
