1999 Chevy Blazer 4DR 4X4 Noise Sign In

My Blazer makes the kind of noise your TV makes when its white noise. It does it off and on, but more recently more on then off. The check engine light came on about a month ago, but it went off within 24 hrs before I could get it read. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Noises are the hardest thing to help with here; even though I can imagine and understand the noise that you explained; at what volume level?
For us to be able to attach this noise to your vehicle we’ll need a lot more info from you.
Is it when you are sitting still, driving at certain speeds, while you’re turning a corner or is it while you’re braking?
The more descriptive you can be; the more we’ll maybe could help you come to a possibility as to the cause.
Dan.

This is the most challenging spot for cars on the web. To describe a noise can be real tough but a favorite. Like Dan said any info as to when this happens will help. Things like vacuum leaks and exhaust can make noises as I interpreted the noise from a TV.

Does the noise get better or worse under any condition?

Check engine light will store some info for a while and will clear if it's off after a while. See if you can get a source location will help. Tough stuff sometimes, T

It is a slight noise. Not loud enough to here over mild radio.

I can make it quit for a sec if I stop at a light or sign. It continues while I'm stopped, but immediately when i release the brake it stops until I press the brake pedal again. One not so savy friend said it might be the fuel pump.

Bought the truck a month ago. It has impecable records. Tranny had been rebuilt, new crate engine, recent AC comp, recent altenator, tune ups all the time, and the seller gave me the records to prove it all.

Just today it started leaking coolant. Probably a whole in the oil mount on drivers side of the radiator. I live in 110 degree weather. Spiked to 230 or 240 degrees and so had to take it in. Quoted that cap would be about $150 and new radiator is $250, both quoted w/o labor. Do those prices sound fair?

Also wondered if theres anything else that will come up soon. Has 90,000+ miles. Driven by older, 60s and 70s ladies the last 3-4 years.

Thanks so much for your info and help.

Ben

Oh Boy! A cap for $150?? The rest sounds OK. If you are in an area that doesn't need it set your antifreeze to about -20F and it will cool better. At the temps you mentioned you need all you can get. If this veh is using a fan clutch and you haven't replaced it in a while it's a good time to do that too.

Take care of the engine first and the noises next. No engine - no noise! T

Received a new tank for $170. Said it had a hole in it. How much should the fan clutch be?

Fan Clutch Prices Sign In

There is a wide range of prices and you want one that is thermostatically controlled as they basically freewheel when not needed which makes them a bargain. Available here if you want.

The ones for trucks cost more. Perhaps $75 or so and with markup would be about $100. A new one will do wonders to your A/C and keeping the engine cool. They roar when needed and when old get marginal which is ok where I live but NOT in extremes. T
