Hello, This is my first post on this forum. I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 Suburban 4x4. It has 125k miles. The 4x4 selector swith has been suspect for the last 6 months or so. (Service 4x4 message) My problem is this, there is a terrible clunking coming from the front end when driving slow in reverse and drive. It sounds like the 4wd is trying to engage on and off. I cant tell because the selector switch is on the fritz. Can the switch be turning the 4wd on and off with out me knowing? Or is there something else I should check? Is there a fuse I can pull to disable the 4wd to get it to a shop? Any assistance would be appreciated.

chevy; You are going to have to retrieve the trouble code. These vehicles have had their share of electrical and mechanical issues with the 4WD. You should be able to remove fuse #2 (20A) in the under dash fuse block to disable the transfer case. Loren SW Washington
