2002 Honda CRV Stalling When Idle - Dies
|
|
|
Hello- Yesterday, my Honda CRV engine started making a ticking noise. Today, it starting rattling louder, the engine was louder, and when I same to a stop, the car rattled and then the engine stopped. I was able to start it again, but if I stopped, so did the engine. What could this be? I have been told I need a transition mount and a knock sensor issue...last year. About 152K on the car. Here is a link to video of the sound (my foot is NOT on the gas pedal, the car is doing that all on its own): http://youtu.be/uUJMVoHF2aU 0

It doesn't do a whole lot of good to record an engine noise from inside the car but it sounds like that motor is pretty much toast. Have you checked the oil level yet? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I heard the tapping yesterday, and then got an oil change. Today, I went to run a few errands (less than 10 miles of off and on driving), and things went downhill from there. I only recorded it from where I was because I wasn't sure when the engine was going to die and wanted to get at least the sound recorded.

So you don't know how much oil was in it before you had the oil changed? I would summarize that it ran low and the damage was done already but you really need to get this checked out by a competent tech. That recording is nothing to go on.

A friend of mine had a similar thing like this happen to her 2007 CR-V after an oil change. Turns out that they didn't put enough oil into the motor. Also, the noise your car is making can be a number of things. For all we know your fuel filter might be clogged and your motor isn't receiving nearly as much fuel as it should be.

Let's not discuss the video anymore, I'll remove it. The forum suggested it so I did it. I don't know much about cars. Thank you for your advice.

The oil change was within 3,000 miles. I'm taking it to a mechanic on Monday.

So I take it you never checked the oil level during that 3000 mile period between oil changes? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I did not check the oil between oil changes, I rarely do because I get them regularly. The oil change was a success, it is full of clean oil right now. I don't want this to become a blame game please, I am really really upset about this and am just looking for some assistance with what the issue could be. I will be taking my car to a mechanic on Monday and pray that things work out (ie, I can afford to fix the problem).

Do you want to know what happened to your engine or not? If the oil level was not checked then it could have easily run out of oil in which case you will be looking for a new engine.

Don't take that comment from PontiacPower too seriously. There is no way a fuel filter is causing that noise, not even in the realm of possibility.

Either way, I don't know how much oil was in it when I had it changed yesterday. You're kind of a tool. As I stated twice already, I will be taking it to a mechanic on Monday. I no longer need your abrasive comments on my post.
