2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo stalling Sign In

Hello

Our Jeep was having some transmission problems maybe 8months ago, it kept getting stuck in 1st gear. It ended up sitting for about 8months. The other day I was finally able to go out and flush the fluid, we changed the transmission filter and cleaned out the pan witch had a lot of sludge btw,. Replaced the gasket and refilled with 4 quarts of ATF 4+ and then added a additive bottle one of the transmission repair additives. At this point it started driving well again, tranny no longer sticking in first. It does shift a little rough sometimes.

After a day we started having this stalling issue. It never had any kind of stalling issues before this. Always ran perfectly fine. It started out after a couple miles of driving it would just suddenly stall out. Then it got worse to were it wouldn't even start or have issues starting from a resting position.

Yesterday I went out and drained some of the fluid to make sure the transmission wasn't overfilled and messed around starting the vehicle. It took about 5 starts to finally get it to run. At this point I let it sit for a half hour idling. I was thinking maybe some bad gas after sitting for a while so hoping to get the fuel cycling. After a half hour I started shifting through all the gears while sitting in place and driving it up and down the driveway. I did this for another half hour at least. At this point the Jeep seemed to be running a hell of a lot better. Let it sit for another half hour or so idling and then started to do a couple laps up and down the road. Seemed to be driving perfectly again until the 3rd lap I pushed it a little harder and about 50mph I guess about 4th gear as soon as it shifted it started to lose power for a second and almost stalled out. I let off the gas a little and it recovered. On the way back home I did that again and it was perfect. Then I did one more lap and this time when I hit 50mph as soon as it shifted when I hit 50 the rpms fell flat to zero and I was left coasinting with the engine running. When I braked to a stop it stalled again. I had to wait about 10minutes for the car to start again it won't fire right back up after stalling. At this point I drove it home in first and called it a day.

I have no idea what is going on here can someone help me figure out where to start?

Thanks greatly for any help.

4.0L or 4.7L? Any trouble codes stored in the engine computer?

The tach was showing zero, but the engine was still running?

4.0.

I don't know about any codes,. But one other thing I forgot about the digital display on top by the rearview was saying coolant low for a while before we parked it, witch it still is, the coolant is fine though and it's not over heating nor has it ever. We had code read on it before parking it because of the transmission issues but I can't remember the code.

Yeah the tach just suddenly bottomed out and the car felt like it was in nuetral. Engine continued running until I braked to a complete stop the suddenly stalled out.
