I have a 2002 Subaru Legacy GT, 2.5 L, 154,000 miles, which has recently started making this low rumbling noise at 2500 RPM when its accelerating hard. This url is to a video I took of the noise: http://youtu.be/Y11wRYiixF0 . I noticed the noise after I had my front struts replaced, and it has been doing it ever since (I don't think it has any relation though). The only thing I can think of would be an exhaust leak, but I couldn't find anything looking underneath the car. I brought it to a shop and they couldn't reproduce the sound, even though it happens whenever the car is accelerated hard to 2500 RPM.

I have trouble making those links to YouTube work unless clickable for noises.

Check any flex pipe and connections and heat shields (rattles usually) if you think it's exhaust,

I didn't hear anything abnormal in that. Noises are tough over the web to pin down. Cars with noises with load as yours might be exhaust anything or perhaps mounts for engine/transaxles allow too much motion.

If a tech went with you to hear it and didn't it's isn't going to work on the web very well to isolate it,

The problem has been fixed! It turned out the cover on the air filter was loose. After it was correctly put back together the noise disappeared! I expected it to be something worse with the noise it made. Thanks for the help.

OK, glad it's been found and fixed. Thread closed as solved and you can re-open it upon request from any moderator,
