Need more info but with this seems like low oil pressure possible either plain pressure or low oil level which you should have checked anyway already.

If this isn't an engine sound but elsewhere you have to narrow this noise down more,

Re: 2002 toyota 4runner Sign In

Thanks - it helps but nothing beats being there. #1 - I don't like that noiseMad

To me it takes the slight load to make then nothing. Doing brain search for what could do that............................
Sorry for the wait but tough with noises and this seems higher in engine not so much ON engine but look and feel (real carefully of course) for anything loose by hand or a stick or something that might make it shut up for a strong clue.

Things at idle AND IF IDLE SPEED STAYS AT CORRECT RPM would include oil pressure still as I didn't see a gauge and oil pressure does go up a good bit normally with just another 100 RPM or so. More CAREFULLY but first try just touching gas pedal while making noise just the slightest to raise RPM and see if that alone makes noise go away and if so MAYBE with the competent help have someone "brake hold" car in gear (ONLY IF YOU CAN DO THIS AND FULL PARKING BRAKES ON, WHEELS CHAULKED AND IN A SAFE PLACE STANDING TO THE SIDE NOT IN FRONT OF IT" listen then and touch feel anything and try to focus on an exact location.

Not sure but some kind of light load like that is tricky at best for now. Not sure what or how an inspection plate or one for "call it flywheel" is close and can touch something from under. Doubt this vehicle but some plastic ones on other type vehicles could do that, sound like a blown engine and just nipping off a little plastic solved it - doubt that on this but see if anything loose even with engine off in that lower bell housing area if you can.

IDK - belt or chain driven (timing) or tensioner on belts you see or don't may be involved.

Try something for now then maybe on to cancelling cylinders to see if one is doing it but wait till other tests seem ok and we can discuss how to take out one cylinder at a time while running just briefly to see if that matters or changes the noise.

Tough one from here!
