2005 Scion tC Grinding Noise

Hey, I have a 2005 Scion tC 2.4l with 110,000 miles and it is an automatic (unfortunately). About 6 months ago, I began noticing that the engine would make a grinding noise upon a cold start. This would only happen when I gave it some gas, and generally the grinding noise would stop above approx 2,000 rpm. At first I wasn't too worried because I could let it warm up for a couple minutes and be good to go. Now, I have to wait probably 7-8 minutes with the car idling. In other words, the car has to be completely warm before it stops grinding. To me, it sounds as if the gears are not properly lubricated with the oil. Perhaps the oil is not getting to the top of the engine quickly? I am a car enthusiast and have done a good bit of work on cars, but I don't know what to do with this problem. Please help!

Whats the oil like? Regular changes, proper grade, proper level? What does it sound like in the engine compartment? Grinding or lots of ticking? Tough to give advice on a sound without being able to hear it. Any chance you could record it and upload it to a hosting site and post link here? Couple things to check: Make sure that the noise isnt coming from something on the belt drive. Is exhaust shield loose and rattling? If it is coming from engine, can you tell if its coming from the top or bottom end?

some thoughts - doing noises in a forum is a tough one-
you are using correct oil - changed as required ? Level good?
Could the sound be a starter motor- hanging drivre or stuck relay?
We will want to isolate the sound- SO as some starts vehicle observe and try to locate - maybe a belt driven accessory? top of engine, bottom - left right ?
An old trick was to use a dowel one end on areas you suspect other end in clenched fist pressed against your ear - a stethoscope affect it helps localize the noise BUT be smart BE carefull go slow THINK

This is it. It's a bit hard to hear over the rest of the engine noise/exhaust. I honestly think it's louder inside. I could do another tomorrow from the inside if it would help. Apologies in advance for my friend who was behind the wheel. He obviously struggles operating a vehicle.

Also, oil is changed regularly at the Toyota dealer. I don't think the oil is premium or anything. It was changed about 2,000 miles ago.

Have you inspected the exhaust system for loose heat shielding or etc.? You might need to use a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the location.

If it has anything to do with the exhaust, why would it be dependent on engine heat?

Thermal expansion and contraction maybe. The baby cat sits right there below the exhaust manifold. Check to make sure the mounting bracket bolts/nuts aren't loosen up or missing. Just trying to give you some possibilities to check out.
