2009 Chevy Trailblazer clunking in engine at 2000 rpm. Sign In

Thanks for being here. I have a 2009 Chevy Trailblazer 4.2L L6 which is making a high pitched clicking when idling, and a lower pitched clunking at 2000 rpm. Oil pressure is staying stable in mid range. I wonder if clicking is broken lifter? and wonder if clunking is torque converter? hopefully not rod. Clunking gets less and disappears at higher speeds on main road. When I sped up at 40mph clunking got softer instead of louder.
I just bought the car at auction and it was making these noises on the way home. I flushed thick gunky oil, and replaced oil and filter.
I hope you guys can give me some help. Thanks.

You said a ton by saying an Auction car! Clunking and wanted or thought you needed to flush out "thick gunky oil" and did.

Please, no disrespect but that so totally smacks of a ruined engine what did you expect? You can't just flush out ruined, broken, worn out or neglect over time and be all wonderful again.

Factor the overall condition of this vehicle already it was trouble or wouldn't be at an auction and choose the plan to either give up or the real fix knowing why oil was all gunky in the first place. Price of this vehicle should have been low enough to make some room for the fix IDK just what yet if plain neglect or mixed with coolant or what but almost ready to say you need a whole engine it's new enough you should be able to make a swap to great used if it comes to that?

End all is don't find bargains as a bargain and they sure can be that was at auction already no prior place wanted the headache now it's yours,

T
