Hi everyone - first post!

Year of vehicle - 2010
Make of vehicle - Toyota
Model of vehicle - Rav4
Engine size - 2.4L
Mileage/Kilometers - 75,000km

Hi everyone, I'm placing a link in this post so you're able to have a listen to it and make a judgement for yourself.

I test-drove a Toyota Rav4, 2010 model today (previously owned by the Dept of Primary industries in Melbourne). I test drove another one last week and didn't notice the sound I did coming from the engine on this vehicle.

I understand there will be some clicking coming from the cam cover on the engine, but when it comes to this one, it seems to be excessive.

In the audio recording, I held the recorder close to the cam cover, then actually held it against it for a few seconds so the vibrations could be recorded as well.

I'd love to hear people's opinions on whether they think this is a normal sound, or if this car is actually sick.

It has a log book - only service that was ever missed was a minor (50,000km) and they were all done at a Toyota dealership.

Thanks in advance folks!

Can't make that type of link for a noise work in that format - some can. Not the point totally. Seems you are a buyer and this one makes this noise and another doesn't is enough for me. Move on and don't buy this one. It showed missed maintenance and don't know that that was to entail but may have mattered?

Generally a noise is NOT normal if it caught your attention and especially since another didn't do that. You are the buyer so why start off with some unknown problem as there are likely issues/problems to tend to when you don't find anything with used vehicles,

Sounds like timing chain noise. Before you purchase the vehicle, you should have your mechanic do a complete check out.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
