Please forgive me if this is a duplicate question – I looked and nothing seemed to help.
I have a rubbing noise that is coming from my front left wheel well. I’ve tried to find what is rubbing and cannot. I’ve replaced the bearings, noise still there. I’ve replaced the tires, noise still there. It sounds like tire is rubbing on inside well, but when feeling entire inside/outside of tire/wheel while sitting, there’s no contact. I’m really stumped. Could it be a weak strut? Transmission seems to be fine and CV half-axle is fine, too. Any suggestions?

! - ? Just a couple questions with new bearings hopefully out of the picture:

Can you duplicate this with just that wheel hoisted in neutral with wheel on?
What about brakes? You must have had them off and a great time to really take a hard look at them for any strange wear or flaws plus re-lube if still apparently good.

Noises are always tricky. If this will do this for a recording so much the better for us.

For now I kinda suspect brakes if this is almost always the noise would change while driving and applying them. If so or any chance take pads off even if like new and with a new piece of sand paper I'd rub any glaze off of them and re-install. If that alone solves it for a short while the pads or installation had a problem and those have to go. Normal complaint is squeaking but I suppose a rubbing sound possible too.

One more - Check the dust shield for the rotors. Some for whatever reason can rub on the rotor. Most will bend back some out of the way if so.

Good luck - do find it,

T

Maybe you should have your local mechanic have a look. Four or more ears is better than two.
