2012 Lincoln MKX soft brake pedal Sign In

Had the local Lincoln dealer perform the recall on the brake booster. They suggested that the master cylinder and HCU be replaced due to internal leaking. Changed both parts and can not get the brakes to bleed properly or good brake pedal feel. Took the vehicle over to the local ford dealer to have the system bleed using the computer. They charged over 200.00 and still crappy brakes.

This suggest you got a notice of a recall and had it done and now brakes don't behave as well or to your liking from the "Lincoln" dealer's work then take it to another dealer "Ford" and is a Ford product but why didn't you go back to where they did the work that didn't work out or get an explanation?

Difficult to define what YOU call a soft brake pedal. If it wasn't boosting properly before may have been much firmer and now you aren't used to what was intended so can't second guess that so easily.

Do this: Go back to the dealer that did the work that changed the behavior and get an explanation or find out what's wrong or if now normal.

BTW - legal but quite worn disc pads will cause a softer pedal and more brake pedal travel as it's compressing double or more of the fluid displacing the wear. I don't expect just every driver to know that tid bit and should be checking brake wear as a routine anyway may not be listed in periodic service but IMO should be,

Why did the dealer recommend replacing the HCU and the master? The dealer had a campaign on the brake booster that extended the warranty to 10 years or 150K for a tearing problem in the booster's diaphragm. The campaign mentions nothing about replacing the master or HCU.

Lincoln recommends pressure bleeding the brake system along with using a scan tool to perform the brake bleeding function for vehicles equipped with an HCU.
