2012 Toyota Tundra Awful Humming Noise Through The Speakers Sign In

Hi. My work truck is a 2012 Toyota Tundra. Was driving down a logging road that was being graded. Hit some really big potholes they just had dirt pushed over them. A few days later there was a loud hum coming through the speakers that gets louder when I accelerate. Sometimes it’s so loud there is a loud pop when the door locks engage or I turn off the ignition.

Took the truck to the dealership for routine maintenance and asked them to diagnose the hum. They said the truck needed a new stereo and that they had disconnected the driver’s side speaker in the door. When I jumped in to drive it home the hum was still there, just not as loud because of the disconnected speaker. I told the dealership and they weren’t any help. They also buggered up the power window in the back seat on the driver’s side.

Sometimes while driving if I turn to the right the hum gets louder and if I turn to the left it gets quieter. Sometimes if I hit a pothole or a large bump the noise gets quieter. It happened that a new battery was installed after the noise appeared and one of the post terminals was loose. I tightened it up and found that if I shifted the battery the hum would get really quiet.

I’m sure it’s not the battery itself because it is new and I’m not entirely sure if it is the stereo or not. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

CRM67:
Perhaps by this read you need a tractor, not a road luxo truck to work with if you must drive such conditions. That or drive accordingly seems like you've bent the body of this by the problems?

Understood - lousy road conditions abundant where I drive public roads current vehicles are taking a serious hit parts everywhere and holes to avoid hitting - a surprise if someone doesn't know it YOU ARE expecting it!

Dealer serviced? IDK, that can be the best bet but all are still just the people who work there under some pressure to take on anything of the brand of vehicles they sell is or isn't helpful all the time??

"Work Trucks." There might be I just don't know of one anymore even a decade before this one?

It really seems this is being destroyed by the use it gets, no telling what wires are pinched and where so said the battery cables came loose? Not if good in the first place must stay secured in place you just can't have one flying around from holes in the road!

There won't be an end or fix it's being abused by your description ongoing and isn't up to that,

Tom

If you can shift the battery around they it isn't tied down properly.

It sounds like you have a lot of wiring connection problems that need to be cleaned up and resolved. Don't just tighten them. Take them apart and wire brush them clean before putting them back together.

The radio is picking up electrical interference from somewhere, probably arcing from a poor connection somewhere or dropped ground.

They usually have suppressors installed at various places to deal with these interferences that may have come disconnected.
