Hello, I'm new to the forum. I had the issues below repaired under warranty. My dealer is not helpful or clear in what the issue was. The work seems extensive. Can someone explain what the repairs mean?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome. IDK for sure what happened if it did need that? You posted in "Car Making Funny Noises" is usually the impossible so be so sure if it was NOISE that you complained about first?
I see you wrote what dealer, "said you said" that it stalls upon start up. That's a problem as cars/trucks just don't for no reason, some so simple it's just a hose off from doing something else routinely?
35,000 miles seems wildly too early to be tearing into much of anything unless this car was severely abused - was it?
An overheat, lack of oil changing or maybe you don't know if acquired used?
It's the 35,000 that has me totally confused same as you. It was covered under who's warranty? Hyundai or a more recent sale to you?
It shouldn't have needed that IMO is the end so IDK why. If it's now perfect I guess don't complain,

It looks like they threw everything but the kitchen sink at it. They tore it down pretty far and replaced the timing chain, oil pump and both Variable Valve Timing actuators. Sounds like they didn't really know what the problem was so they changed everything. I really cannot imagine a car with 35K needing an oil pump or a timing chain. Sounds like the tech needed to pad his check for this week.

Hi,

We leased this car in 2015 and loved it so much we purchased it at the end of the lease. We have always had all maintenance done on schedule and at the same dealership. It is the Ultimate trim package.

We do not drive a lot. As an example, that repair was done in Dec of 2019. Currently, we have 42000.

It was covered under the Hyundai warranty. In July, the rear wheel differential was replaced under warranty too. Frown Currently in ECO mode, the SUV feels like it's hesitant to switch gears. On occasion, it shudders when it does.

Now that I'm typing this, (I think it's a lemon) It's time to sell it. There are too many issues.

Thank you for your response.

! So you HAVE had it since "new" if you will. Differential went out also!

This is highly unusual, so are "real" lemon vehicles, some known to do better than other but 35K this was happening!

Hammer mentioned "padding the bill" as it was paid for if a place or tech (if same ones) are into this screw the manufacturer the fixes may not be so good and causing things to go wrong.

I feel you dismay that you bought a lease vehicle you loved.

It's not totally low miles if regularly used to full warm ups a mistake is not changing oil enough by time not just miles especially an outdoor vehicle if dew on the windows you have dew getting in oil too it's just got to go.

Sorry this all happened I don't know of this car/van thing as a wild problem in any respect.

I just might have been harmed the way it's been treated and NOT by you??

Maybe time to change it out used vehicles are HOT right now I hear getting over book values on some - buyers will chase down low mile stuff even more,

Tom

I think you're right! Why pay it off the Santa Fe if I can get top dollar. It sucks because we only owe 12k on the suv and have to start all over.

All the work was done at the Hyundai dealer we leased it from. The Santa Fe was always kept in a garage and had all scheduled maintenance done or Hyundai wouldn't repair under warranty.

Currently, there is another issue, at cold starts the SUV can shudder when transitioning from 1st to 2nd gear. Only happens once out of every fifteen or so starts. Dealer can duplicate but there are no codes and they don't know how to fix it. I am working with Hyundai Corp. to see if they will buy it back at the dealer's retail price of 25k.

Probably, going to pay a bit extra for a Highlander, Pilot, or CX-9.

Thanks for your feedback.

Your biz to negotiate another just don't be fooled by giving you lots it somewhere else they didn't discount. It's not the whole worry to me I'm worried about that work not being so good causing more headaches if fine now you may not know what was short cut??

Good luck whatever you do,

Tom
