Two days ago, I was driving through heavy rain while delivering pizzas, and turned onto a side street that was flooded. I just started to drive down the street, where the water was maybe an inch, if that, and my car stalled and the engine turned off. I tried starting the car and it struggled. Finally got it to start, though it didn't sound quite right and I pulled into the nearest driveway. The people nearby were nice enough to help me to push my car onto the street out of the water and onto the non fire lane side.
The guy told me I probably got water in the air intake and it stalled the engine. I've done some research and now know that to be hydrolock. I tried to start it a couple more times, and he said it might be a good idea to come back after a dry day to see if it would start.
I came back the next day, and it still didn't start. He came out to help (obviously I'm no mechanic), and pulled out the spark plugs to see if they were wet or ruined. They were fine, but 3 of 4 had oil on them. He told me that was unrelated, but not good. But no water came out of the spark plug holes when I tried to start the engine, which is what I read should happen in a hydrolock situation.
Eventually, through a lot of guesswork and luck, he got it started, but ever since there is a very fast and noticable (but I wouldn't say loud) clicking sound. It's constant in speed and strength whether in idle or driving. And at any speed. It doesn't sound violent. And while according to him and what I've read, a bent rod is likely in a hydrolock situation, and that would make a sound, this sounds unlike any videos I've looked up on youtube regarding bent rod clicking/knocking. A friend told me it might be a valve cover gasket that needs adjusting. But that seems too strange that hydrolocking my vehicle would have caused that to come loose. I haven't seen anything about that online in my research at least.
I took it to a mechanic to do a diagnosis, and I was told it was "probably" or "could be" something completely unlike what I've read online (I wish I knew the car parts he talked about), and that it would cost about $1,200, and it might not fix the problem. I'm calling bull.
I have a lot of questions, but my main one is, does it sound like my car was hydrolocked, or was that a coincidence? And if it was, could that possibly have caused the valve gasket to get loose?

That nonsense may work with your mother but not here.

Sounds normal to me in the video. Don't hear anything that would be an indication of hydrolocking.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the valve cover gasket and tube rings if you have oil down in the spark plug wells.
If you have the valve cover off, you should have the valve lash adjusted too. Honda's need proper valve lash or else the manifold vacuum will be lower and affect the MAP sensor output and fuel injection.

Ok, that wasn't a video of your car. That car sounded normal unless the mic wasn't picking up the noise the person in that video was trying to get everyone to hear.
A video of your car might be enlightening.

The guy that had the car before me changed the intake, and it's pretty freaking low. If you don't believe me, fine, but don't waste time calling me out on it, because what I'm saying is what I know to be true. I wouldn't claim something like that otherwise. What reason would I have to claim it was only an inch of water if it was a foot? I'm not afraid to admit mistakes, but that's not what happened. I had just turned onto the side road, and it was well before the water got very deep that my car hydrolocked/stalled.
And though the water got deeper within the next half hour, at its deepest it was MAYBE a foot. And that's the deep part. I stalled at the beginning of the street when the deep part was about 6 inches and the part I stalled in was approximately an inch.
I agree, it doesn't make sense to hydrolock in only inch of water to me either. Which is why I'm saying I think it might have been a coincidence. But even that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
What does it matter regardless? I'm on this forum asking for help. You're quibbling over details that don't matter. The fact is that my car stalled and possibly hydrolocked in the rain. Unless you have something helpful to say, what's the point of replying to my thread? To harass me?
