I have been informed that I need to replace both axle boots on my car. And that the axle has to be removed, then the boots can be replaced. My question is this, I have heard that there is a new kind of boot out there (it either snaps or is riveted together) allowing future repair to be easier and much cheaper, if that is true, can I request these new type of boots from my dealer, or do I need to take the car to a private mechanic? Thanks!

Stay away from those "quick"put together boots.. Go with what it came with... Now... IMO again... If the axle /joint is making noise....replace the entire axle... Axles are not that expensive , especially if your car doesn't have ABS (anti-lock brakes)..and the car is a 95.... I assume original axles right? IF joints are ok,its ok to replace the boots..if thats what you desire... MY car...new axle...(replacement axle/re-manufactured) Yes,your local shop/mechanic (qualified)(trusted) should be able to handle this job for you... Just my opinion

I agree with Jim. The replacement axle is faster and easier than replacing the boots. Also the entire axle assembly will have a warranty on it. Ask about warranty on the repair before you have it done. Good luck. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Just to add: Some of the rebuilt whole axles (they do keep the parts that are ok but new boots always) can be under a hundred bucks! Hard to do just the boots for that, T
