1997 Isuzu Trooper w/ 158,000 miles, 3.2l V6, 4WD (RWD). Whining noise coming from engine. Difficult to locate where noise is coming from but it seems to be near the front and top of engine. Noise seems to have gotten louder over time and also get louder as I accelerate. Noise is similar to noises I have heard on other cars I have owned (all different makes), when the power steering fluid is low. I check the power steering fluid and was full. Pleae help and thanks for your time.

It could be anything belt driven but it's pretty common for one of the idler pulleys or the tensioner pulley to do that. Take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand and the bad one will feel rough. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
