Purchased In Dec.’13, And First Oil-Leaking In Mar.’14
I bought a brand new Buick Excellence GT on Dec.6th, 2013 for home use. In March 2014, seldom found there are oil drops on the grounds, went to 4S (name of authorized car dealerships ), and they said it was the oil not cleaned before delivery from factory, they cleaned the oil with some spray twice and told me to drive normally and check it after weeks.

Until early April, the problem continues, and went to the dealer again. The director and technicians checked the oil and leaking position, then confirmed the leaking. They told me leaking is common for Buick and small matters to deal with. It would be OK by simply replacing the seal.
No one would be happy with such a half-year new car, having oil leaking within 10,000 KM. We called Shanghai 400 hotline, they told us it was usual and just leave the car to dealer for repairing, in the warranty it’s totally free. Dealers had well-trained technicians and bearing the technical and ability to solve this problem for BUICK.

After taking photos and submitting records to Shanghai GM, the claiming person in 4S confirmed the ready stock of the seal. They began the un-assembly of the car on 15 o’clock
Apr.19th, 2014. The 2 front tires, front axles, clutch, transmission, all were removed from the car. Some parts were not easily split, they prised with a steel rod, tried many time to separate the transmission from the engine, but some parts were still connected, they had to try again and again. 3 technicians worked 2+ hours, finally lifted the engine and separated the transmission. At this scene, my heart was bleeding.

After lifting the engine, the seal had oil running, they wiped the oil but after 10mins, it started again, so determined to replace the seal.

Their reception told me that they could not finish it by the same day, the next day afternoon would be possible to take the car back. With no choice but took a bus home with no alternative cars from them.

The next day afternoon, as it was nearly dusk, so I directly drove home with no more talk to them, but found the steering was very heavy and direction always went to right side of the road. With no intention to doubt the profession of the 4S, I decided to take ride for a week to see.
In the following week, I found the direction is very hard to control, I could even go faster than 60km/h, as it always went to right side of the road and change lanes within 20 meters. I thought this was serious and determined to check with dealer in weekend.

On 26th. Apr, about 2 PM arrived the dealer, and they told me they should have every car on-road tested twice before letting it go, no possibility of the problem I mentioned. The roads in China were never flat but right side is lower than left, it absolutely was no problem when cars pulling itself to right side. The heavy steering was personal feeling, their assembly technic was of no problem.
I totally didn’t agree with him on this, asked their manager to arrange a real road test driving with their technicians. On the out road, their technician confirmed the problems existed. Finally agreed for a free Wheel Alignment. After two hours long time handling, the pulling and heavy steering problems ended. Before leaving the dealer’s shop, they lifted the car again, the leaking point last time was wet but no oil running. I was a little worried and ask them why, their explanation was same as previous, maybe the remnant of the last week repairing. At this point, I had no choice but to wish what they said was the truth. The make the same cleaning with the spray last time.

Oil Leaking Again In June ‘14

About one month later, oil drops occurred again on the ground. Called the dealer, they asked me to drive to their shop to check again. On June 21st, the 4th time went to them because of the leak. After lifting, found the leaking was even worse than the 1st time, many drops of oil hung there. The technician said very calmly that this was simple and common problem and replacing the seal would fix the problem. The previous repairing failed because no glue used.

Called Shanghai GM again, the formality was as usual, they said their dealer was able to handle this problem as they were trained and professional.
This time I tried to find their manager of the dealer, negotiated with him face to face, asked him to take great attention to this problem as my car was very new and this problem was not small, if necessary asking GM professionals to help diagnose and fix in site. But he replied very gracefully, the oil leaking was a very common problem, usually the seal, the screws of the engine, the bottom cover of the engine, they would examine carefully of the 3 possible places and promised to cure the problem.
Asking him that according to the new warranty, the main parts of engine cannot be fixed would have the care returned or replacing with a new car, what would he do in case it failed again, he only said gave him more time ,they surely would get the problem fixed …

With no other options, I had to choose trusting GM and its dealer, agreed to repair for 2nd time. But they told there is no stock of the engine seal, needed to be delivered from the manufacturer next week.
3rd. July, with complex and gloomy mood, drove to the dealer which is 30km away from where I live. They told me they need 3 days to make it, asked them to mind the sequelae like pulling one side. And waiting for their call on Saturday.
5th. July, they called to pick up the car in the afternoon, when been there found the mileage increased 38km and gasoline decrease about one scale mark. But the worst was the screws on the wheels not in the original position and with many scratches and some edges wore. The technician manager said it was no problem with that, they made the screws well on the wheel.
With regret and doubts, left this place, said to myself that the oil-leaking was fixed then everything else was not important, GM was good. But till now, I was too naïve then.

3rd oil-leaking in July.
On 20th. July, when I cleaned the leaves and dust , opened the hood, and thought if I should check the oil. Then I laid down to the ground and headed beneath the engine, saw a paste of black dust on the leaking point. I cleaned with tissues , it was black oil and soil, It might be the remains of last time as the dealer told me last time, so I decided to wait and check again some days later.
Called to GM hotline, GM ask to check with their dealer, so on 26th. July went to a nearer dealer shop, they confirmed me that it’s still oil leaking from the same place.
In China, General Motors and its dealer, didn’t intend to solve problem for customers, but deceiving, put-off, covering-up, but never mentioned nor cared about the loss and trouble it brought to customers because of its own products fault.
