Sign In 96 Cherokee Sport 4L 74K. Recently some work was done on the car. I have a feeling that the belt might be on too tight because when I put the A/C on there is a screeching coming from underneath the hood, it sounds like the power steering pulley. Everywhere I look online it says to check it by hand which it seems to check out fine and none of the local parts stores carry a belt tension tool. Never had a problem with any component causing noise until now. Sign In Usually a tight belt doesn't screech. It's a loose belt or slipping belt that screeches. Might want to make sure that your AC compressor isn't locked up.
