Car squeals when I turn the wheel....HELP

I have a 1999 Mazda Protege which I love and has never given me any problems...anyway, it has started squealing loudly when I turn the wheel either direction (I think) esp. when I turn it hard. Anyone have any idea what this is??

Possibly the power steering belt is worn/loose/slipping making the noise.
