Hi, my friend emptied my coolant before attempting to change the water pump. He didn't make it very far. I'm going to take it to a shop, he rotated the water pump pulley while trying to get the bolts off. I imagine there is some air in the system. Can I fill it with distilled water to drive it 2 miles? Or do I need to do a full flush/fill/bleed just to drive it to the shop before having the pump changed? I assume it would be fine to limp it along even if it has some air, and isn't full of coolant - but I obviously don't want to damage the engine because I'm being lazy or stingy. Its a 2010 Kia Soul.

Using water to get to the shop is not a problem but let the guy know as you have diluted the remainder of the coolant. The air bleeding part of it may be a little more important though as it will overheat quickly if it has a large air pocket. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
