Driving with air in coolant system Sign In

Hi, my friend emptied my coolant before attempting to change the water pump. He didn't make it very far. I'm going to take it to a shop, he rotated the water pump pulley while trying to get the bolts off.
I imagine there is some air in the system. Can I fill it with distilled water to drive it 2 miles? Or do I need to do a full flush/fill/bleed just to drive it to the shop before having the pump changed?
I assume it would be fine to limp it along even if it has some air, and isn't full of coolant - but I obviously don't want to damage the engine because I'm being lazy or stingy.

Its a 2010 Kia Soul.

Using water to get to the shop is not a problem but let the guy know as you have diluted the remainder of the coolant.

The air bleeding part of it may be a little more important though as it will overheat quickly if it has a large air pocket.
