I drive a 2000 ford escort and it's got 88,000 miles on it. Last night it started making a sloshing/scraping sound when I'm idling at a stop light. If I sit idle long enough, the car starts to jerk and sounds like the engine will die. Any advice on what this might be and what I should do? THANK YOU! (I don't know cars or their sounds)

Wild guess: You may be hearing coolant bubbles thru heater core and may be low on coolant. Worth a look at all fluid levels and if one found low find out WHY! T
