Foul play? Foreign object above serpentine belt Sign In

While looking at the air filter on my wife's Cobalt, I spotted this between the air filter and engine block, hovering just over the serpentine belt. It looks like the innards of a broken side mirror, but both of hers are perfectly in tact. I recently started servicing the vehicle myself instead of having her take it to a shop. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but could this have possibly been planted in hopes that it would fall and disrupt the serpentine? The object is very hard plastic, and the little knob sticking out rotates like a side mirror might. Any ideas?

You seriously believe that?

This therory that not only does a technician sabotage a vehicle but sets a booby trap that may or (darn it) not work?

I think your right.....You found the tip of the iceburg.....

You should call the police and report this........

I wouldn't let your wife drive this car until you've completely stripped it down to a shell and located all the other booby traps.....They're like cockroaches...If you can see one....there are 100s of others lurking in the shadows just waiting to strike....

Man, that sounds serious. I would call the FBI or maybe even the secret service. This may even be a secret plot to get the president. Check it out. Don't ride on any airplanes in the meantime.

Can you take a pic of it and put the link in here, so we could see what this object looks like?

Here is a link to the pictures.

You guys don't have to be #$%^&%$s about it. It just seems a bit odd.

Yep, the old "glass in the engine" trick. Been using that one for years.

Does that look like part of a head lamp housing?

It sure does look like part of the lamp housing. I'd bet that shop drained out all of your headlamp fluid. They're some shady ones at that place. I would immediately storm in there and insist that they supply you with at least three quarts of it free of charge. Don't let them give you the cheap regular fluid either, you deserve the synthetic halogen fluid. Good job keeping those scammer mechanics on their toes.

Look at that...you can see the reflector behind the headlamp bulb of this Colbalt's headlamp assembly matches the pattern of the item you found near the FEAD belt.

Maybe the vehicle was in a front end collision at one time.

Of course it was in a collision. Some mechanic hit it intentionally knowing that would happen and would set things in motion to damage a $30 belt that he would get paid $10 to put on.

A word of advise to the poster. Dont write in to site run by professional mechanics (for free at that ) and start making unfounded accusations like you have . A better way would have been ************** I found this unknown object under my hood any idea what it is and how it may have got there ? In the mean time ,,,dont use your key fob!!!!!!!!!
