I'm new to this forum & need to ask someone for help! Long story short... I recently purchased an 04 Toyota Tacoma (manual) with 44,000 on it from the dealer. Had it about a month or so & now finding that when i apply the break in a slow gear (forward or reverse) especially when it's cold. It's making a grinding sound as though gears are being stripped away. Mad Dealer went over everything on the breaks ect. before actually taking it off the lot. Plus car fax paper work to boot. They had said the breaks were fine. So now i'm thinking maybe it's the clutch or something. I'm NO mechanic!
But when clutch & break are ingaged, i hear it & it scares me!!

Also i'm hearing a rattling noise when it idles to warm up but then it goes away. I'm so mad now!!Mad But i have bumper to bumper coverage on it. But this is so... BULL....!!!!! Please give me any ideas or advice ASAP!!!

P/S. I had said (I bought this truck) But actually Toyota bought it for me from a recall notice.Unsure

Brakes: Need to take the calipers off and really inspect the pads as a maybe is that a pad has broken free from its backing plate and while there check wheel bearings too.

Noise/rattle: Could be a heat shield on an exhaust part. You said you were NOT a mechanic but you could just take a rubber hammer and tap on exhaust parts engine off and cold is enough.

If it will demonstrate these issues easily then take it back again on your warranty and be nice but tell them there are those problems even if you have to leave it or have a mechanic drive it to find the exact causes IMO neither are normal and they should check things out again.

If you really are afraid (have to count on you) have it towed back,

T
