High Pitch Whine in Trailblazer

I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, 6 cyl, 4WD, with just over 25,000 miles on it. About a week ago I noticed a high pitch whine when accelerating. It also does it when the engine is revved in park. There are no performance issues with the vehicle--it is very cold here and it starts fine and runs fine. No dashboard lights on, no other symptoms. Is this anything I should be worried about?

Without hearing the noise it's really tough guess....
Depending on the battery condition & how many accessories are turned on, you may just be hearing the alternator trying to keep up with a high demand on the system..........
