Sign In Hi, does anyone have an idea of what this type of engine noise could be? It sounds like its coming from inside the engine but it might be from a nearby component (sorry - not a mechanic). Here is a link to a Youtube video of the engine running Its an older car with about 160,000 miles on it. Thanks! Sign In OK - In that you said you were NOT a mechanic still things you could do: Check all air intake parts from beginning, thru air filter and on that they are in place, no leaks or splits in anything. Another is to just wet the belt with engine off and see if the noise is gone for a short while. If so it's a belt driven item, if no change that's not conclusive of anything. Check fluids and if all checks have a tech just take a listen for you and suggest what it could be.
