One of the most important things you can do is change the oil at the recommended interval. I use synthetic oil and fluids for everything. Synthetics cost a little more but in my opinion are well worth it. They say with synthetic oil you can run it longer but I still change mine around 3000 to 4000 miles. Be sure to change and flush all other fluids at the specified date or miles. Get a tune up such as plugs, wires, etc. They say to rotate your tires every 6 months. Check your glove box for the owner's manual. It will list everything with date and miles in there. If your car ever has an issue, or if the check engine light is on, don't put off getting it looked at. Doing so could possibly cause damage to something else.

Follow all maintenance items suggested in owner's manual. Most will list a more frequent interval for severe use which most fall under. Things as basic as use in hot, cold, dusty use and lots of stop and go driving. Avoid aftermarket tricks for much of anything. Check you own fluid levels and tire pressure on a schedule including spare tire pressure and jack operation. I approve of synthetic oils that meed or exceed manufacturer's recommendations. Lube locks, hinges and latches found all over. Use approved lubes for any electronic locks. Saves replacing the dang things that could be prevented. Drive gently. Hard use causes early wear. Avoid almost all tricks in a can claiming improved performance. Most don't work or can cause problems. Keep track of things that have been done by date and miles for reference along the life of a vehicle. Quality parts for routine work. Note age of battery. They have a life expectancy and it can save a lot of headaches to plain replace proactively. Quality counts with those as well. Many really need use of memory savers to save grief when disconnected for any reason, cleaning terminals or replacement so avoid headaches, T

You got that right Tom... Tom had a good point about keeping a list of all work performed. List the date and miles the service was performed. It makes it nice to be able to open a notebook and see what is due. I keep a notebook and folder for each of our vehicles. I list all work performed plus keep all receipts. If you ever go to sell the car the buyer will see that and feel comfortable with the purchase. Proving that the oil was changed on time is a huge selling point. It will make you look very responsible and also proves the car was well cared for. A well cared for car means a higher selling price and a quicker sale. You could even use a Microsoft Office program and scan all receipts so they are saved on your computer.
