Year of vehicle: 2003 Make of vehicle: Dodge Model of vehicle: RAM 1500 Engine size: 5.7 HEMI Mileage: 94000 Last night when I exited a freeway I noticed what sounded like a rock hitting and scraping on the driver side front wheel area. I didn't think much of it thinking it may have been just small rocks because it only lasted a few seconds. After driving a few more miles and making a left turn I didn't hear anything. As soon as I made a right turn I heard the sound again but this time it was louder and lasted longer. Normally I would have stopped and had it towed at that point but it was very late at night, so decided to just drive it home. When I turn right it makes the knocking sounds then bad grinding sounds. I did stop and inspect under the truck and around the wheels and didn't see anything. What are the possible causes? Sorry if asking a estimate is taboo on forums on what I should expect to pay. Im a full time student who is on a very tight budget, so am sorta panicking at this point. CV joint is what my google search turned up but not sure since it was so sudden. Also after looking under my truck I couldn't find the CV joint by its description. No problem at all and just took a 3 hour road trip: Problem at end of road trip when pulling off freeway back into town: Little noise First right turn after getting into town: Noise a lot louder Third right turn to driveway: Noise louder. Can you give any guesses on what it could be and around what I should expect to pay. Was not going to drive it until its fixed but if you think its ok to drive very short distances (around 4 left turns and 2 right turns around 7 blocks).

I guess this is a 4X4 or woudn't have CV joints in front at all. It is consistant with a bad one perhaps ready to render you a pedestrian! Could also be some whacked brake issue or perhaps other things like a loose wheel, bad wheel bearing or more?? How much is impossible as prices vary place to place and we don't know the actual cause without a diagnosis which means a personal inspection by a tech, T
