Still hard to know. You cancelled a plug and noise didn't really change so probably cancelling THE one causing the noise would change noise as I just guess this is a lower end noise as it seems rhythmic with engine RPM valves train would probably be slower is ever other revolution of engine.

Same problems with getting another car well used at that: You check them out BEFORE you get them not what might be a fatal surprise for that engine AFTER you buy it,

I bought the car for $400 and I knew it had a engine knock trying to diagnose it so I can fix it.. noise sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine, I changed the spark plugs and that helped the noise a little but it is still there.. I am going to try to do an oil change and see if it see any metal in the oil..but I really don't think it is a rod bearing..

Noises are a pest even this device plays good sound sounded to me like noise of RPM and the top of engine is valve train parts spin at 1/2 the rate of the bottom or pistons and bearing for the block. That's all I guessed on.

Lower knocks take out that car if just $400 you aren't out anything if willing to diagnose and find out it's too much a good set of wheels and the core metal value combined it was just you time.

IDK - you may end up pulling a valve cover to check out sludge situation up close and if high miles a Hammer asked think hard about how much to do. Sludge alone if bad enough will starve parts and do this so can back luck and eventually miles matter no matter what you do since new which isn't this care anyway,

That mileage makes the answer very clear.

You bought a car with 170K on it and an engine knock so you bought a body that needs an engine and possibly a transmission also very soon. It doesn't matter what the actual noise it. The engine is used up. Put another motor in it or scrap it. The guy that sold it made the right decision.

Plus the H22a is a great motor everyone is trying to put a H22a motor in there car my cold air intake is worth $400 alone not to mention my alumni radiator is worth another $400 lol the wheels $300, body $700 clean car.. for $400 people would die to buy a Honda prelude in my condition for $400

I don't know if you are just naive or stupid. You want to argue with professional techs about the life expectancy of a specific engine.

I assure you that at 170K, most of that car is worn out as the engine has already displayed. You may have seen bodies with 700K on them but they were certainly not on their original engine or transmission or any wearable parts for that matter.

It doesn't matter what is making the noise in this engine. The engine is shot and needs nothing should of a complete rebuild to include cylinder boring and Crankshaft work.

Not arguing but you are basically telling me I am stupid because I bought a car with 170k miles for $400 that is making a knock the knock could be anything you are basically telling me to give up on the car and junk it you must not be a professional because you have no idea how much money is under my hood.. I am simple asking what the noise could be..

I never said anything about the value of the car or the other parts in it. I merely said selling it was a better idea than fixing it.

I think this has gone on long enough.

Make sure your torque converter is tight to the flywheel and the harmonic balancer is not broken, assuming this is an auto trans.

Beyond that, it's just an internal engine noise and it needs complete tear down.
