Loud intermittent rattling in engine compartment

My 2006 Honda Civic started making a rattling sound a few days ago. It sounds like something loose vibrating back and forth. I believe the noise is coming from the serpentine belt area. May possibly be one of those rollers/wheels as one at the far bottom appears to shake when the noise occurs (don't know what it looks like normally as it is VERY subtle if not just in my mind). My mechanic is out of town until next week, so I am trying to see if someone can diagnose it by sound and maybe I can fix it myself. Couldn't find any videos of this sound so I uploaded one, link below. You can post here or on the YouTube video.

Sounds like it needs a belt tensioner assembly.
Gates makes a kit which includes the belt. I'd recommend changing that too. The hydraulic portion of the tensioner goes bad and can't dampen the belt vibrations, so the tensioner arm vibrates making that noise.

Sorry for not responding. Haven't had time to look at it more. Today I drove it and found out in this awful 90 degree weather that the AC didn't work and it spewed out hot air. Remember in the first post how I mentioned the wheel/roller that the sound seemed to be coming from and it looked like it would wobble when it made that sound? That roller happens to be the one attached to the air compressor. Coincidence? Probably not, especially by sound location. I don't know how the wheel is attached to the compressor to power it, but do you think it broke off so it still spins freely, but doesn't actually power the compressor? Am I looking at having to completely replace the compressor? Thanks for your time!

The compressor has a clutch that engages the engine to the internals of the compressor. The serpentine belt drives the compressor when the clutch is engaged. The hub pulley the belt spins works all the time and uses a roller bearing. More than likely that bearing has gone bad. I really don't think they offer just the clutch assembly aftermarket for that model compressor. You can get the clutch assembly from the dealer, but the price of the assembly is as much as a new aftermarket compressor. Besides that you don't want to stick $300 worth of clutch parts on an old compressor that is high in its service life. If the car has a lot of mileage, the best choice would be to replace the entire compressor in my opinion. You might want to have your mechanic take a look to confirm your suspicion.

OK. Sounds like if it's the AC compressor it will be an expensive repair with labor probably costing more than the parts. Would it even be worth fixing AC if it's pricey? I'm in Wisconsin, so half the year is mild heat (80s) and the other half requires heat and not ac. But...it only has 105000 miles on it so it should have some life left. I have no plans to sell the car anytime soon. I'll have the mechanic look at it and give me a quote since I clearly won't be fixing this myself.

The question "Would it be worth it subject"
Wisconsin: It get's hot there as it does where I am, MA where A/C is a must for most just a shorter time so you find out what a proper full fix will cost not just a compressor - if failed would be more items and work if the car is worth it and you and your own need makes it mandatory for even the few real hot days there too.
Yes - It might cost a couple thousand bucks for a whole fix? Find out. Do what it right for you. I found more than 1/2 of folks with this and now a rusting car with other expensive things becoming possible chose NO. Can totally understand the well dressed person for work or any reason not wanting to sweat like crazy, wreck clothes, appearance for a certain job or function routinely done or health issue where it truly isn't healthy.
Old Phart here. Owned tons of cars just my own - hundreds. Maybe 1/2 never had A/C at all ever. Still know folks who will special order cars without and save some real bucks. Problem: Cars used to vent fresh air really well. All side windows went all the way down, vent and floor vents so just moving along with shorts and a t-shirt is enough. That or some only need to go a few miles so not enough time to care.
Others routinely stuck or in slow traffic it doesn't even need to be a hot day or those who highway drive a lot the dang noise is obnoxious of open windows.
You may need to put a dummy compressor in this car or brackets for belt depending on just how it's broken so the belt system works and just forget having A/C.
Can't decide that for you. If a real nice car overall now with a long life expectancy factor that in for expensive repairs like anyone. A/C if not working and just that alone will lower it's value but not for all.
I'm going on your location about the same as my own. Have choice of vehicles and if one is down with A/C just use the other - that's me not you and could fix this at cost and still might not - only you decide knowing what it will take and cost,
