I have a 2001 Silverado-5.3L. last nite I went out to start it. it started to turn over & I heard a light "thunk". I tried again &-nothing. I tried again-nothing. I tightened the batt. cable connections, tried again & got a click. I moved the batt connections & tightened & it started. when it started, I noticed a "noticeable" clicking-metal to metal-sound. I thought it could be the fan hitting the shroud or something. I investigated & didn't find anything apparent. getting closer to the engine area, the noise seems to be "loudest" from the head area-inside the engine. I suspect a lifter problem. I did not have the problem before last night. I can't figure out how-starting the truck-would have caused a "lifter problem". is there any oil "additive"/chemical I can use to free up a stuck lifter. it's about time for me to change the oil. would changing the oil & adding an additive for "suck" lifters free up this lifter?? thanx

Had this been sitting quite a while prior to this? Right now all I can say is messing with the battery connections probably has nothing to do with this noise. Forget any oil additive tricks just make sure it's full for now. If it sat or oil neglected for a long time change oil now and let it run or look harder for perhaps a loose accessory belt driven as at first you seemed to think it was fan to shroud type noise. IDK - Charge battery, clean connections at battery too try again then again with belt off might help find noise if belt driven at all. So far if that sudden for two things I don't see the relationship of that alone, T
