Odd sounds after sudden stop

Hello, I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe with around 160000 miles on it. Today, as I was driving, I had to stop suddenly, and afterward, my car began running louder when I press on the gas, and when I'm stopped there is a slight clinking sound. I believe it may be something to do with my muffler, but I'm not at all positive. Does anyone know what could have happened? I also need to know if it is dangerous to continue driving it. Also, I was rear-ended a few months ago if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

Your engine/trans is a lot of weight shifting forward so moves some. Weak anything in exhaust system might have let go. Go looking for what and where, tap on heat shields and pipes, look at connections and underside of muffler. All else fails with a heavy leather glove and wet rag plug exhaust tail pipe and hear where any hissing is coming out will take two to look and do that but the problem should be obvious. Don't forget to rule out motor mounts that one or more aren't broken as well, T
