Oil Change Gone Wrong

I am in serious need of advice after taking my 2017 Terrian to the dealership I bought it from for a routine oil change. After getting the service done earlier in the day the car was driven approx 50 or so km with oil spewing out from the oil filter. I found that out once the tow lifted it up. It got to the point where there was no oil and the light came on and engine started to smoke alittle. Also had a knocking noise that started feignt but was getting worse when I finally pulled over. Looking at the filter looks like it was torqued on with something that left alot of scratches on it. So from the there it was towed back to the dealer to look at when they open. My guess is that either I need the engine replaced as there is irreparable damage. Has anyone ever had this happen before? I am so afraid of getting screwed as I paid over 40k new. Some good advice would be so appreciated. Thanks2017 GMC Terrain6cyl 45000km

That is more common than you think. That dealer owes you an engine and don't let them talk you into anything less. There is serious, permanent damage done to it now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
