Rattling Engine Noise - 98 Corolla

Hello, I have a 98 Corolla with about 125K Miles on it. Recently I have started hearing a rattling noise from under the hood. Upon opening the hood it seems to be coming from the left side of the engine ( when I am facing the car )probably from a motor which has a belt on it and a tensioner etc. An observation I made is that if I turn the sterring left or right and keep it in that position the noise is gone.It comes back when I leave the steering wheel. I hear this sound even during idling. Any advice would be appreciated. RJ

Noise can travel - it the noise on belt side of engine? Either way - take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand (engine off please) and they should be silent with no wobble. Could be something else as steering is a load on engine and cause something else to make the noise?? T
