Way to reduce engine noise? Sign In

I have a 2007 Ford Focus ZX3 SE 2.0L with 39K miles on it. I've read that one of the common annoyances on this vehicle is a noisy engine. The car runs very smoothly and there are no clicking noises or anything that would signify a problem, it's just that the engine is awfully loud! Is there anything I can do to help reduce this? Thanks!

There's not a whole lot that you can do here. This is an issue that is addressed in the engineering of the vehicle and how much soundproofing is incorporated into the body. You could apply some undercoating around the engine compartment but the benefit would be minimal and it would be a very messy situation to deal with.

Agree as usual with Hammer. My 2 cents about this - it's not IMO a high end car that they go or used to nuts making them silent to the point you could mistakenly restart a running engine!

Make sure if the car was available with hood insulation that it's in place. Some (don't know this on precisely) would fall down and folks would just remove the stuff. It's a maybe the it can be added but must be fireproof proper stuff!

Also - (old phart here) they used to use a heavy asphalt/rubbery undercoating all under cars that I haven't seen other than what OEM did sparingly. It did quiet a car down some,

I have no real mechanical idea but a louder radio may help your cause a bit. Wink
