What is this clattering sound? (Video) Sign In

1991 Toyota Previa 2.4L with 221,000 miles.

A clattering noise briefly happens when I first start the vehicle and begin driving, then it goes away while I'm driving. Any ideas on the problem, and type of repairs needed? Type of shop? Approximate cost? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! Here is a video of the sound:

Fluid levels are good, recent oil change. Transmission fluid might look a little brown.

Repairs needed? How about a new car?

This thing has 220K miles on it. Everything is worn and it takes forever for the oil pump to fill everything up and build up oil pressure. The timing chain is worn out and likely hitting against the timing cover. The tensioner has to build up pressure to take up the slack in the chain.

The car is used up and it's time to look for another one.

Thanks for your reply! You're right that I need a new vehicle, if I could afford one. Question: do you think this noise/issue with the timing belt is an emergency or can be fixed for a reasonable price?

You're not listening................. It needs a motor.............. and probably a lot more other things also.

It's not worth fixing.

Check the coupler on the accessory driveshaft.

Always trick but sounds like an exhaust part rattle to me? Heat shield(s) hangers or plain broken parts that tighten when warmer.
221K - Have to agree to not overspend on this thing. Miles, the age and just noticed brown trans fluid - it's on borrowed time,
