My Impala has a 3.8 L engine and nearly 100,000 miles. Recently I have started hearing a "whining" noise coming from the front of the car while driving, it sounds like it's coming from under the car. The "pitch" of the noise goes up as I increase speed. It stays relatively stable. Any suggestions on what this might be would be greatly appreciated.

If you have to be moving to hear this noise and it doesn’t matter whether your spouse is in the car; it might be a wheel bearing beginning to fail? The wheel bearings on most front wheel drives are a common problem; for some reason GM seems to be a little worse then the other manufactures? At least we seem to be replacing a lot of them anyway?
