grinding noise from rear when braking Sign In

About 8 months ago, my 4.0L automatic 2005 ford falcon xr6 started making a grinding noise from the back wheels when braking lightly, for example, when slowing down to stop for a red light, or driving slowly (10km an hour) while lightly braking. It is not as noticable in dry weather, but once the wheels are wet, the grinding noise is extremely loud. it has done 55000kms, the brake pads still have plenty of wear in them, and ford have found no mechanical faults that could cause this noise. it does not make this noise when lightly braking in reverse, only when going forwards slowly with the brakes lightly applied. when you brake hard or heavily the sound does not exist.

am thinking of selling car soon to downgrade to a smaller car, but no one will buy it while its making this noise.

Still think brakes need another look. Check operation of parking brake and wheel bearings also,

Not positive on your model, but Ford has a TSB to replace pads here in the states for the problem you are describing.
