low oil pressure

2003 dodge ram 1500 4.7l . lost oil pressure, replaced the oil pump, (also replaced timing slides and valve covers while i was at it) and i still have no oil pressure. now im thinking i may have a spun bearing but im not very familiar with this. could it be the main bearing or rod bearing that may cause low oil pressure or both? if i replace one set should i do the other set as well? very aggravated and need any advice on why this pos is not getting any oil pressure. im not relying on the dash gauge alone, im using a brand new manual pressure gauge that i know is good. HELP!

If you had a spun bearing low oil pressure would not be your most obvious symptom. It would be making all kinds of noise and soon would be launching parts through the side of the engine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Have you verified the pressure with a manual gauge? What is the pressure at idle?................... at 1500RPM? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

when i first fire it up, the oil pressure is around 15-20psi, but after 10 to 15 mns it starts dropping down toward zero. i shut it off just before it hits zero. heres what iver replaced so far: oil pump, pickup tube and screen, valave cover gaskets, timing slide coponets (just because i was there and they are plastic and wear out) as far as componets affecting oil pressure the only thing i havent replaced are the bearings (main and rod) im just looking for advice before i tear into this again. this is my first dodge. and yea i used a mechanical gauge and because i was still stumped after replacing everything else i borrowed a second gauge just to make sure. im really stumped.

Did you find anything loose in the pan that can be picked up by the screen? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You might be right about the main bearing but they wouldn't be spun, just loose.

Did the engine all the sudden just lose it's oil pressure or did this happen gradually over a period of time? Was the engine overheated? Did you go too long between oil service intervals? Is the engine sludged? Bearing clearance problems including main, rod, cam and/or idler can be causing the problem your having. You are probably going to have to tear the engine down to figure out what is going on. In my opinion, your better off getting a good used salvage yard engine with a warranty. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Is the engine sludged? You have to understand that if it is a bearing problem, the first thing that is going to get hammered is the cam journals. If the cam journals are wiped out, you'll need to replace the heads. Your probably better off getting another engine. it wasnt gradual. it happened all at once and was immediately shut off. there was a little sludge but not much, ive seen alot worse. and it never overheated.
