I have a 1998 ford explorer xlt awd with 114,000 miles on it. When driving it yesterday I noticed a squeeking noise. Thought it was my brakes or there was a pebel stuck some where but everything seems fine, the tire seems to be pretty stiff when trying to rock it up and down. It almost sounds like my metal tab on my break pad is scraping but doesnt look so, and it doesnt do it all the time, and when it does it is like squeek squeek squeek almost like your using a turkey call. Please give opinion.

Sounds like the wear indicator on the brake pads to me. Probably the indicator on the inboard pad that you cannot readily see. Thats where i'd look first. Click here...this is a pic of new pads...hard to see,but you can see the inboard pad has a wear indicator on it. Jim
