Is your spare key a PATs key?

You should take it to your mechanic or the shop that did the transmission work to be sure something they did or a defective part isn't causing your noise issue.

PATS (passive anti-theft system) is what they call the engine immobilizer system on your car. The key has a transponder that communicates with a receiver in the dash. IF the PATs system likes what the key is telling it, it will allow the engine to start. If the signal is missing from the key or the PATs system doesn't like what the key is telling it, it will disable the engine from starting. A non PATs key won't allow the engine to start.

If you had your spare key on the same key ring the original PAT key is on, the spare key will probably start the engine because the PATs key is close enough to the reciever, but if you take the PATs key off the ring and use the spare key to start the vehicle, it won't start.
