hello,
I've had a slight thumping noise that appears as I start to accelerate from when the car is stopped or at a slow speeds. The speed of the noise 'thump' increases with acceleration but goes away when I put in the clutch.
It appears to be coming from the back of the car but I'm not possitive. Its really subtle but I can always hear it cause I'm so use to it. Both CV joints are pretty new and have been checked out. No noise when turning. I have a 98 subaru impreza awd. Not sure what it could be.
Note- last year the mufler exhaust pipe had to be spot welded in a few places due to some small wholes in it and really loud noises!. I'm thinking the noise is from vibrations from the exhaust system as the car accelerates. - I've been driving the car like this for awhile, about 10 months but now I'm concerned due to a planned road trip.
Any thoughts?

With AWD you have shafts going to the back too! They need to be checked if only to rule them out. - T
