vacuum-like noise only when accelerating

I hear a vacuum-like noise under the hood of my 97 Toyota Tacoma (2.4L, 163k miles) only when accelerating. When I shift, the noise dies until I speed up for a second or 2. I noticed cracked hoses connected to my PWM valve sensor, cut the tips, re-attached them, and added electrical tape and plastic ties. The noise was gone completely for about a day, then came back. It sounds to me like the noise is now coming from around the engine, as opposed to around the PWM sensor at the periphery. About 6 months ago I had a check engine code for excessive flow through the EGR valve, but it went off within a few days.
Since I currently have no check engine light and no problems idling,
could the EGR valve be to blame? Should I just change the hoses anyway?
Because I don't hear the noise at idle, would it be worth spraying the
throttle body/intake manifold with carb cleaner, or would I likely not
hear it anyway?

Spraying carb cleaner may find a vacuum leak. If the hoses were that bad they should have been replaced. EGR is enabled via vacuum and told when to open depending on how much is sensed. A leak will mess several items to be fooled. Make sure air cleaner assembly is all well installed and intact too, T
