when i try to turn up the volume on my radio i loose all sound, if i keep turning the volume control after long time i finally get volume, can you help

It sounds like the potentiometer on your volume control is probably dirty. If you can get to it, spray some tuner/degreaser on it and air blow it dry, reassemble and try it again. Sometimes if you just wiggle the volume control around you can tell that this is usually the problem.
