2000 Cadillac Deville DHS crazy wiring? Sign In

I just bought this Cadillac and the guy I bought it from bought it from someone else blah blah and has been driving it around with no radio. So I pop the back seat to find the fuse box, and what do I find but two red wires 18 awg one plugging into audio fuse (blown) and one plugging into cigarette lighter.

The red wires travel along and one has an in line fuse (blown) that eventually lead to a burnt spot and eventually disappear into the drivers side rear seat. Right along with the two red wires is a thick black wire that leads to a female end that is plugged into nothing at all. Seems like an antenna connector maybe? Well I pulled the dumb wires out, replaced the audio fuse, and radio works now.

I have no clue what those red and black wires are, any ideas? Maybe ghetto custom equipment? Who wires directly to the fuse box? That cant be standard...

"Who wires directly to the fuse box? That cant be standard... "

No one with any sense ..its not standard, just some alley mechanic engineering..

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would know better....but we see it all they time.
I see all these aftermarket custom shops do this all the time...they just look for a hot wire or fuse and tap into it, damn what it's for

Radios working, wires are removed, nothing else is fried, got you a Cadillac, all's good.
