2005 Rover - No power to CD player Sign In

Hello,
I have recently purchased a 2005 Rover 25. It came with a built in cassette player & radio. When driving the car for the first time I turned the tape player on using the power button, it came on but displayed 'please wait' on the screen.
I had a purchased sony CD player in my previous car (a 2001 clio), so the next day I tried to fit it into my Rover. I connected it as it was connected in my old car and tried to turn it on, however nothing happened. When I put the old rover cassette player into my clio to test, it turned on but displayed the same 'please wait' message. I assumed that it was the cassette player that was broken, and not the connections in the Rover, however my CD player worked in the Clio but not the Rover.

My Grandad used to work as an electrician and tested everything for power. The Rover connections both had 12v, the CD player connections were also working. He connected everything, and yet again nothing happened! As he moved the CD player slightly I heard a crackle of wires and then suddenly the CD player turned on and started working. However as soon as he moved it it would stop again. It did this a few times, crackling each time before turning on, and turning off again if moved to put back into place. We assumed there was a dodgy connection somewhere, however I was traveling away that day so we left it to look at again after the weekend when we had more time.

My Grandad has looked at it again today, and is now finding no power at all from the car's connections. He's hooked it up to the same machine he used on Friday, however they are now displaying no volts of power.

Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

We don't have that vehicle here in the states, so there is no service information to see how the radio is wired up.

Re: 2005 Rover - No power to CD player Sign In

This isn't my forte so just some comments and possibilities: Same as DS - these cars are not sold where we are but still there are some obvious issues. Two totally different vehicles and can't know if radio/sound system has to do with any other things in either. Some will reset totally unrelated things like oil change reminders or who knows?

For most fairly common vehicles in the states with an aftermarket setup you would do well to just get a plug or interface that just allows plugging in a certain brand set up to vehicle's existing wiring and be done with it. No splicing or guessing it was pre-engineered to cooperate.

I'd look for that or another setup that plain was made to work for the vehicle you want to work,

T
