After market car stereo only comes on when lights do?

Hi first time post I’ve got a after market stereo and got it out in by a friend, but when I got home the next day when I came to use the car it only powers on when I put my head lights on? I don’t know how to fix it as I don’t know anything about cars?

Year, make, and model car?
You should have your friend check it out. Maybe a radio power circuit is wired into the illumination circuit.
