CD player jumping tracks Sign In

The CD player in my 2004 Dodge Dakota is mixing the tracks. When I feed a CD disc into the player, it randomly picks a track and starts playing. When that track finishes, it randomly picks another track and begins playing. There is no set sequence in the track play. Playing the same CD twice produces a different sequence of tracks. It makes it difficult to play books on tape.

I'm assuming it is not a dirty CD player, but I haven't cleaned it. Can it be fixed cheaply or do I buy a new CD player.

Re: CD player jumping tracks Sign In

Have you looked carefully - does this CD player have a "shuffle" option?

Re: CD player jumping tracks Sign In

Tom: My CD player in my Toyota Highlander just started doing this (jumping tracks). 1) How would I know if I had a shuffle option and 2) if I don't, is the CD player finished or repairable?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Our resident pro at the stereo stuff is with new baby if you can understand time is limited. My LIMITED know how with OE stereo stuff is that if with a CD player that can hold more than one CD they are risky biz to last long.

Twice now I've replaced radios in now old cars where OE was unavailable and fairly pleased at price and performance. No joke - under a $100 for the units - $40ish for the interface so you don't mess with OE wiring at all - the point being fixing the OE would probably NOT be easy or cheap vs a total replacement - IMO,
