Car stereo making ticking sound help plz Sign In

My car stereo/cd player makes a ticking sound through the speakers whenever the car is running. Along with higher rpm's, the ticking is faster. What causes this and how is it fixed?

ricky; Have you had any charging system failures recently? Alternator, ect.? Is the engine running as normal? Check engine light? The stereo could be 'picking up' RFI.

There are filters you can install that will help elimanate that noise. Most car stereo shops will have them...........

Im not sure why its doing that but i know my when i press on the brake pedal in my car you can hear a thump noise come from my subwoofers because of how the wiring is set up.

i just bought the car, and there was no ticking, then i was looking in the trunk and i noticed wires for amps/subs and i uncovered them. The ends of a couple of them touched and the speakers made a noise, with the car off and no key in the ignition. I taped off all the wires and i disconnected the wire from the battery, but ever since then the speakers have been making that noise. So no, there hasn't been a charging system problem or ses light.

Well since you had wires cross at the terminals, the damage has been done. here are some solutions.

1) check where the RCA cables are located running from the deck to the amp(s) If the RCA cables are on the same side as the positive power cable, that can cuase serious RF feedback from the ignition. ****Move the RCA cables to the opposite side of the vehicle***

2) If wires have been crossed (to amp, Deck, Subs, Speakers) you may have damaged a RF noise filter or sound prossessor inside the amplifier, or deck ***New amplifier, Deck Or cables are needed.***

A crossover or frequency pass filter may help, but you should try to resolve the issue before you spend money on somthing you might not need.
