I have a 2000 Saturn LS2 and a few years ago when I first got it all the speakers worked but then a few days later about half the speakers simultaneously went out. All 4 tweeters work, but the only main speaker that works is the back left with the back right rarely coming on for a bit (seems to be when it's wet/humid out usually) I'm pretty sure it'd be a wiring issue probably behind the radio at a common place since it happened simultaneously, but I have no idea what to do about it

Do you know if this radio has an external amplifier? There are three different options of radios for that vehicle.

I don't think so, there's no subwoofer in it. It has both a tape and cd player if that helps

Re: Half of my speakers don't work Sign In

If you have a subwoofer than you have an external amplifier or the advanced audio system option.

That makes it even harder to figure out. Frown

These are some of the things that could cause your symptoms:

Wiring or connection issue between radio and amplifier.
Wiring or connection issue between amplifier and speaker channel(s)

Internal amplifier problem
Internal radio problem
Shorted or open speaker(s)

Your going to have to isolate what is causing the problem. Probably the easiest place to start (well not easy) is to do a visual inspection of the speakers, connectors and wiring. Look for anything out of the ordinary such as chaffed wiring, polish engineering, damaged connector(s), damaged or broken speakers. If you don't see anything out of the ordinary, then you'll have to do some troubleshooting.

Re: Half of my speakers don't work Sign In

I DON'T have a subwoofer in it, it isn't the advanced audio package. I also forgot to mention I tried replacing the radio unit itself and there was no difference. I feel like it isn't the individual speakers that are the problem since they all went out at the same time too

Re: Half of my speakers don't work Sign In

Whoops, sorry about. Unimpressed

If you have a short in the wiring or a speaker, that can take out a whole channel that other speakers are on.

Makes it a little easier since you don't have a amplifier.

You could unplug each speaker one at a time to see if there is a short in a speaker itself pulling the channel(s) down.

If you have a test speaker that you know is good(one that has an equal or higher ohm rating), you could unplug all the speakers and test each channel separately. That would tell you if you have a wiring, connection, or speaker issue.
